How to Select Flow Rate, Head, and Pipeline Diameter for CWN Dredge Pumps?

Selecting a CWN dredge pump cannot rely solely on the pump's discharge diameter or nominal flow rate. The actual transport capacity depends on the matching relationship among flow rate, total head, slurry properties, and the piping system.

The flow rate should be determined based on the slurry volume required for the project and the allowable completion time. It is recommended to provide the normal flow rate, maximum flow rate, and daily operating hours simultaneously. If on-site working conditions vary significantly, the minimum and peak operating conditions should also be specified. The total head required for a dredge pump typically includes: vertical lift height; friction resistance generated by horizontal transport pipelines; local losses caused by elbows, valves, and reducers; pressure requirements at the discharge endpoint; and the effects of slurry density and solids content on system resistance.

The pipe diameter also needs to match the flow rate and particle conditions. A pipe diameter that is too small may result in excessively high flow velocities, increased pipeline resistance, and greater wear; a pipe diameter that is too large may cause insufficient slurry velocity, increasing the risk of sand settling and pipe blockage. Only by evaluating the dredge pump, medium, and pipeline as a complete system can the appropriate operating point, power, and pipe diameter be determined.
