How to Reduce Wear on CG/CGH Heavy-Duty Gravel Pumps?

When CG/CGH heavy-duty gravel pumps continuously transport slurry containing sand, gravel, or other abrasive particles, wear can occur on the impeller, casing, liners, shaft sleeve, seals, and discharge piping. Reducing wear requires a comprehensive approach considering material selection, operating point, piping layout, and maintenance.

First, the material of the wet-end parts should be selected based on particle hardness, size, shape, solids concentration, temperature, and corrosiveness. Material hardness is not the only indicator. If the medium contains large particles with high impact force, the impact resistance of the material must also be taken into account.

Second, the pump should be kept operating within a reasonable working range. Prolonged low-flow operation, insufficient suction conditions, pipeline blockages, improper valve regulation, or significant fluctuations in slurry concentration can all lead to localized erosion, vibration, and uneven wear on wet-end components.

Piping layout also impacts wear rates. Unnecessary sharp bends and abrupt diameter transitions should be minimized, and an appropriate pipe diameter should be selected according to medium conditions. Elbows, reducers, and high-velocity zones typically require prioritized inspection.

If abnormal wear occurs repeatedly at a specific location, simply replacing parts is not enough; you should also check whether the operating point, piping layout, particle conditions, and installation status have changed.
