What is the difference between the front liner and the back liner? Are they interchangeable?
The front liner and back liner are typically installed on different sides of the impeller to form the pump casing chamber, protect related components, and create the correct flow passage together with the impeller, throatbush/liner, and other parts.
Due to different installation positions and mating components, the front liner and back liner may differ in structure, thickness, hole locations, positioning methods, and flow passage profiles, and are generally not directly interchangeable. Specific definitions should be confirmed according to the pump assembly drawing.
The front liner usually needs to mate with the suction inlet, impeller inlet, or front-side structure; the back liner typically mates with the rear side of the impeller, the shaft seal area, or the rear structure. Designs may vary across different pump models, so this description should not be taken as a fixed structure for all models.
When front or back liners experience severe thinning, grooving, cracking, deformation, or damage to mating surfaces, the internal clearances and operating conditions of the pump may be affected. When replacing, the impeller and casing/liner should also be inspected at the same time to avoid poor mating caused by replacing only a single component. If the old part is severely worn, dimensions should be restored based on original drawings or unworn areas, rather than merely copying the current thickness and profile of the worn part.
