How to Choose a Dredger Cutter Head? When Does It Need Replacement?
The cutter head is the component of a dredger that comes into direct contact with underwater silt, sand layers, clay, or other sediments during dredging operations. Its operating condition directly impacts cutting efficiency, equipment vibration, suction conditions, and dredging output.
When selecting a cutter head, the actual soil conditions should first be confirmed. Soft silt, clay, fine sand, dense sand layers, and gravelly soils require different cutter head shapes, structures, materials, and blade arrangements. You should also confirm: the installation position of the cutter head within the assembly; the original part number; external dimensions and mounting dimensions; tooth or blade structure; fastening method; drive speed; direction of rotation; operating depth; soil hardness; and the presence of gravel or other foreign objects.
If the wear rate of the cutter head suddenly accelerates, you should also check whether the soil conditions have changed, whether gravel or metal debris is present, whether the equipment's rotational speed is abnormal, and whether the cutter head is installed correctly.
When procuring a replacement cutter head, it is recommended to provide front, side, mounting surface, and wear pattern photos of the worn part, along with annotations of key dimensions.
