What Are the Respective Functions of the Impeller, Volute Liner, Throatbush, and Frame Plate Liner Insert?

The impeller, volute liner, throatbush (front liner), and frame plate liner insert (back liner) are critical wet-end parts in slurry pumps, gravel pumps, and certain dredge pumps. They come into direct contact with mineral slurry, tailings, mortar, and other media containing solid particles, and are consequently subject to wear, impact, and corrosion.

Driven by the pump shaft, the impeller rotates to transmit mechanical energy to the slurry, imparting velocity and pressure to the medium. The impeller's diameter, vane configuration, passage size, shaft bore, and direction of rotation must match the specific pump model and operating conditions.

The volute liner is typically located around the periphery of the impeller to form the primary flow passage, directing the slurry toward the discharge outlet while protecting the external pump casing or related structures. The actual structure and designation of the liner should be confirmed based on the specific pump model.

The throatbush and frame plate liner insert are installed on both sides of the impeller to enclose the pump chamber, maintain the appropriate clearances, and protect other pump structures from direct slurry erosion. Their installation positions, shapes, and mating dimensions are typically different and cannot be interchanged arbitrarily.

If the dimensions, materials, or clearances of the replacement parts do not match, it may lead to reduced flow rates, abnormal friction, vibration, leakage, or accelerated wear.
