What Size of Particles Can Heavy-Duty Gravel Pumps Handle?

The maximum particle size that a heavy-duty gravel pump can handle depends on the impeller passage, suction inlet, discharge outlet, and casing design of the specific model. Without technical data, a general promise cannot be made regarding the conveyance of sand, gravel, or solid materials of any size.

When selecting a model, providing only the "maximum particle size" is not enough. You should also specify: the primary particle size range; the proportion of the maximum particles; whether the particles are rounded or sharp; particle hardness; the presence of crushed stone, shells, or metallic debris; the presence of wood chunks or long fibers; slurry solid content and density; and whether the particles settle easily.

Larger, harder, or sharper particles increase impact and wear on the impeller, pump casing, and piping. The fact that a particle can pass through the pump for a short period does not mean the pump is suitable for long-term, stable handling of such media.

If the on-site particle sizes vary significantly, it is recommended to provide material photos, sieve analysis data, or actual physical dimensions. Technical personnel can evaluate suitability based on the impeller passage and pump casing design, and confirm the wet-end materials and operating speed.

For operating conditions involving large debris, it is also advisable to evaluate inlet screening, separation, or other protective measures to reduce the risk of foreign objects jamming the impeller or damaging the pump casing.

What are the common spare parts for CG/CGH gravel pumps?
Common spares include impellers, casings, liners, shaft sleeves, seals, and bearing assemblies. Customers can provide the pump model, part number, drawings, dimensions, or photos to confirm replacements. Refer to confirmed CG/CGH technical datasheets for exact flow, head, max particle size, materials, and power ratings. The FAQ is structured by application, operating conditions, selection, customization, and spare parts.
Can CG/CGH gravel pumps be customized?
Yes. We configure and select pumps based on flow, head, slurry properties, particle size, wet-end materials, drive type, nozzle orientation, and installation conditions.
Are CG/CGH gravel pumps suitable for large particles?
Designed for gravel and large solids, this series provides high particle-passage capacity. Actual maximum particle size depends on the specific model and technical specifications.
How to select CG/CGH gravel pump specifications?
Model selection requires parameters including flow rate, head, discharge distance and height, slurry concentration, max particle size, pipe dimensions, suction conditions, and operating hours.
What media can CG/CGH gravel pumps handle?
This series handles gravel, mineral sands, mud, river sediments, and other solid-laden slurries. Suitability depends on particle size, concentration, density, and abrasiveness.
What applications are CG/CGH heavy-duty gravel pumps suitable for?
CG/CGH heavy-duty gravel pumps are mainly used for river sand mining, gravel transport, mine tailings discharge, dredging, and handling media with large solid particles.
